State Farm Donation

                                    Red Cross Will Be Recipient of Donation from State Farm

 

Springfield, MO.  -  The Greater Ozarks Chapter of the American Red Cross is pleased to announce that on Wednesday, September 30, 2009, representatives from State Farm Insurance will present a check for $20,000 to the Chapter with half of the proceeds to benefit the new Disaster Operations Dome and the other half to benefit disaster relief. Members of the media are invited to the presentation at 1:00 p.m. at 1545 N. West Bypass.  Local legislators are also being invited to attend.

            State Farm Insurance has been a proud supporter of the Greater Ozarks Chapter for 16 years.

            Greg James, Director of Financial Development for the chapter, said, “The partnership between State Farm and Red Cross has been tremendous.  We’re convinced that many families would not have been helped without State Farm’s steadfast dedication to the unselfish mission of the American Red Cross.”

Red Cross Deploys Volunteers to Georgia

                                    Red Cross Will Deploy Local Volunteers to Atlanta

 

Springfield, MO.  -  The Greater Ozarks Chapter of the American Red Cross will deploy volunteers to assist with the flooding in Georgia.  Three of the volunteers are nurses and they will by leaving on Friday from the Joplin area.  The other two volunteers will be departing from the Springfield office about 8a.m. on Friday morning.  One of them will be a computer operations supervisor and the other volunteer will be a manger of the bulk distribution warehouse.   All of the volunteers will report to the chapter headquarters in Atlanta and be assigned to their duties from there.

Flood Victims in Monett

Red Cross Assists Flood Victims

 

Monett, MOThe Greater Ozarks Chapter of the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team Members (DAT) have met with three families who have experienced flooding from the heavy rain that caused concern for members of the Monett community.  All three families were living in mobile homes within close proximity of each other and had major damage to their dwellings.  Volunteers have provided assistance with food and will continue to follow up with the residents that have been affected. 

 

DAT members are volunteers with the Greater Ozarks Chapter and have received specialized training in various aspects of disaster response, including casework interviews, damage assessment, sheltering and feeding, health services and crisis counseling.  DAT members also have the full support of the chapter for additional personnel and resources if needed.  For information about training to become a Red Cross volunteer, please call 866-206-0256 EXT. 200 or visit www.redcross-ozarks.org/volunteer.

Blood Drive

                                    Red Cross Will Conduct Blood Drive at Salvation Army

 

Springfield, MO.  The Greater Ozarks Chapter of the American Red Cross is partnering with the Salvation Army and Red Cross Blood Services to conduct a blood drive and educate seniors on the importance of preparedness on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009.

 

                        Location:                  The Salvation Army, in the gymnasium

                                                            1707 W. Chestnut Expressway

                                                            Springfield, MO

                        Time:                         10:00 A. M. till 2:00 P.M.

 

Chris Harmon, Director of Emergency Services, will be on hand at 10:00 A.M. to give a presentation to seniors about preparedness.  Residents of the community are invited to attend this free and informative presentation.

 Weather radios will also be available for purchase.  The cost is $30.

Red Cross Offers Babysitter’s Training

 

Springfield, MO.Due to classes filling quickly and an increase in demand for trained babysitters, your American Red Cross has added another opportunity for future babysitters.  Local pre-teens and teenagers have the opportunity to become American Red Cross certified babysitters by attending a day-long training session on Saturday, September 26, 2009 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  This one-day interactive class trains young people to be responsible caregivers.  Skills gained will be valuable to those caring for siblings and/or those who want work as babysitters. 

 

Babysitter’s Training covers the following topics:

 

            Safety and Responsibility                Holding

            Leadership                                        Safe Play

            Preventing Accidents                       First Aid

            Basic Care                                        Bleeding

            Hygiene                                              Wounds         

            Feeding                                              Sudden Emergencies

Disaster Action Team Training


Red Cross Response to Disaster Training

Springfield, MOThe Greater Ozarks Chapter of the American Red Cross will conduct a “Chapter Response to Disaster” class for those individuals interested in learning how to respond to local disasters (as part of the Disaster Action Team). This class is for Greene County residents only. Please respond by this Thursday, Sept. 17.
