Joyce sends this update from Cedar County:
Once again American Red Cross DAT (Disaster Action Team) volunteers demonstrated their willingness to respond to a disaster and help those in need. Cedar County DAT responded to an early morning apartment fire in El Dorado Springs Sunday morning Sept. 26th 2010 and were on the scene for several hours. American Red Cross caseworkers Joyce Wallace and Valorie Mead have 5 cases that have been opened and they are working with the families giving referrals for food, clothing, and also making sure each family has found a place to stay. Americorp member and regional DAT co-ordinator Kathy Dennis surveyed the damage before speaking at the monthly Red Cross meeting on Tuesday evening and expressed her appreciation on behalf of the Chaper for the excellent job that the local volunteers have done in responding to this disaster.

Valorie and I are just part of the team and as caseworkers we follow behind the DAT volunteers who are first on the scene. We have a great group of trained DAT volunteers in Cedar County!
