American Red Cross Southern Missouri Region: 1/22/2012

January 20, 2012 - American Red Cross; Southern Missouri Region
responded to a fire at The Missouri Hotel on Commercial St. in
Springfield, Mo. Two shelter locations were identified within a few
hours and Red Cross Volunteers were contacted to begin set up. The
Dayspring shelter, and the COX North facility opened at approximately 6
pm on 1/20. The City of Springfield provided a City Utilities Bus to
transport the families to COX and the individuals to Dayspring. Greene
County Emergency Management is providing continual support as new needs
arise, such as the bus transportation to showers at Baptist Bible
College, from the Dayspring Shelter.

Currently Dayspring Worship Center is housing 34 individuals, and COX
North Hospital is housing 25 families. (86 adults and children) Red
Cross Volunteers, 14 per day, are staffing the Daysprings Shelter, 7 for
the day shift and 7 for the night shift. The Red Cross is supporting COX
North with staff assistance of 5-6 Volunteers per day alongside the CERT
(Community Emergency Response Teams) from Greene, Webster, and Christian
Counties, to provide coverage for staffing needs.

As of Saturday evening 1/21/2012 the Red Cross had delivered 700 hot
meals that are being prepared by partner agencies. The Salvation Army
has been providing and cooking food over the weekend and Red Cross
Volunteers are transporting the meals to both locations. Daysprings
Worship Center staff and volunteers have been manning the kitchen at the
church helping serve meals and snacks. Going forward, Franciscan Villa
will begin providing food and preparation of meals on Monday 1/23/2012,
while the Red Cross will continue to provide the transportation of food
to each location.

Crisis Team of the Ozarks) providing crisis counseling in both locations
as needs have been identified, and the Missouri Hotel Caseworkers are
continuing to support the residents, by meeting with the families and

City of Nevada Purchase of 100 Weather Radios

American Red Cross Southern Missouri Region: 1/11/2012

How prepared is your city for stormy weather? One city in Southern
Missouri is working towards a goal of preparedness. The American Red
Cross; Southern Missouri Regional office in Nevada Missouri recently had
a request from the City of Nevada to purchase 100 emergency weather
radios.

Through a loss prevention program with the city insurance provider, part
of the premiums are set aside and able to be used for quarterly rewards
based on meeting different goals that ultimately help prevent insurance
claims. Each quarter a goal is set by the city committee to determine
where to focus for the next quarter.

For one of the quarterly goals this year, each and every city employee
will attend a storm spotter training class. "The class is not for
certification, but to create awareness and to ensure that each employee
has knowledge about storms and what to watch for during dangerous
weather." said Sharon Kegler , Human Resources Director ; City of
Nevada. The employee reward upon completion of the training is a Red
Cross Emergency Weather Radio.

Peggy Tedlock , Executive Director, Financial Development at the Nevada
Red Cross office says "We are so happy that the City of Nevada has
chosen to purchase the weather radios from the American Red Cross. It
is very important that all individuals be prepared and have a dependable
weather radio when we have threatening weather. The weather radio
alert may help them find a safe place if needed and can save many lives.
"

For information on how you can purchase a weather radio for yourself or
for your employees please call your local American Red Cross office. For

Donations to American Red Cross Helping Haiti Recover and

Rebuild at Two-Year Anniversary of Earthquake

American Red Cross; Southern Missouri Region - 1/8/2012 - Two years
after the Haiti earthquake, the American Red Cross is helping people
rebuild their homes and their lives and improving communities with
health, water and sanitation projects.

In a two-year update, the American Red Cross highlighted its emergency
work after the 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti on January 12, 2010, as well
as its recovery efforts over the past year.

"People in Missouri and across the country responded to help Haiti, and
their donations are making a difference with recovery and rebuilding,"
said Greg James, American Red Cross Southern Missouri Region Chief
Financial Development Officer. "The money provided life-saving relief to
millions of Haitians after the earthquake and is now being used for
longer-term housing, health, safe water and other recovery programs."

The two-year report on Red Cross relief and recovery efforts in Haiti
can be found at www.redcross.org/haiti.

Despite many challenges - such as the ongoing cholera outbreak - the Red
Cross has made significant progress in Haiti. For example the pace of
home construction has increased rapidly, with the American Red Cross and
the rest of the global Red Cross network providing housing to more than
100,000 people as of December 2011.

Other highlights of the past year include:

* Providing clean water and sanitation services to more than
369,000 people
* Providing health services and hygiene education to more than 2.4
million people
* Reaching more than 3 million people with cholera treatment and
prevention
* Teaching more than 436,000 people how to better prepare for
disasters
* Providing livelihoods assistance - grants, jobs and other help -
to 114,000 people

The American Red Cross received about $486 million in donations
following the earthquake, and has spent and signed agreements to spent
$330 million on Haiti earthquake relief and recovery efforts in the
first two years. The largest portion of spending has gone to food and
emergency services, followed by housing, water and sanitation, health,
livelihoods, disaster preparedness, and response to the cholera
outbreak.

In the coming year, the American Red Cross will focus on programs to
renew communities, which includes constructing and repairing homes,
providing clean water and sanitation, health education, livelihood
support and disaster preparedness programming. The American Red Cross
also will continue to support hospitals and clinics that are critical to
providing access to needed medical treatment in Haiti, and will maintain
its efforts to combat cholera and teach people how to prevent diseases.

continues across the country, we here in the southern part of the state
of Missouri, continue to provide excellent service to our 40 counties.

Currently the Greater Ozarks Chapter of 29 counties and the South East
Missouri (SEMO) Chapter of 11 counties are functioning together as the
Greater Ozarks Region. In order to streamline and balance the response
to our Region we have restructured into four redefined "Areas" that
together, will now be known as * The Southern Missouri Region.

Areas are defined as follows:

Southwest Area (SWMO) with physical offices in Joplin and Nevada
providing service to Barry, Barton, Cedar, Dade, Jasper, Lawrence,
McDonald, Newton, St. Clair and Vernon counties.

Regional Headquarters Area (RHQ) with physical offices in Springfield
and Lebanon providing service to Christian, Dallas, Greene, Hickory,
Laclede, Polk, Stone, Taney and Webster counties.

Southcentral Area (SCMO) with physical offices in Van Buren and West
Plains providing service to Carter, Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark,
Reynolds, Ripley, Shannon, Texas and Wright counties.

Southeast Area (SEMO) with a physical office located in Cape Girardeau
providing service to Bollinger, Butler, Cape Girardeau, Dunklin,
Mississippi, New Madrid, Pemiscot, Perry, Scott, Stoddard and Wayne
counties.

Each individual area will continue operations and responses through
local staff and volunteers, with direct support and guidance from the
management team located in the Springfield office of the RHQ area. Over
the next few months we will be changing the Greater Ozarks label on our
media outlets, Facebook, Twitter, press releases and marketing outreach.
We appreciate your help in maintaining and spreading the visibility of
the American Red Cross in Southern Missouri. Same great service you
have come to expect, the only thing new is the name.
